Hello everyone, promoters of healthy lifestyles having a desire to increase their knowledge in the field of supplementation. I will try to systematically share with you my knowledge and experience related to the selection and dosage of supplements 😊 I think that looking at the current times and the vast amount of “knowledge” and more information circulating on the Internet on this subject, often unverified and unsupported by science, it is worth spending a few minutes and look at us, I will periodically appear here articles on such topics.
The supplement market is growing rapidly, with more and more companies and products appearing. More and more of us are reaching for dietary supplements. Only do we do it consciously?!, use the right personalized doses or rather follow what is fashionable popular or what a colleague recommends to us .
At the outset, it would be useful to quote the definition of the word to understand its use.
Most researchers accept the term , which tells us that:” dietary supplement as a product that is a source of concentrated nutrients and other components with physiological effects”. The term seems trivial to us but are we sure we understand when we should reach for supplements!
Working with people as a trainer or nutritionist, I often hear questions: Santa what to take! What will speed up the whole process, bring me closer to my dream goal! I always then go back to the definition of the word trying to explain , that it is an addition to a well-balanced and personalized diet, we use it primarily when, for various reasons, it is not possible to consume the recommended amounts of vitamins or minerals in the diet!!! Of course, we must remember that nowadays the supplement market abounds not only in vitamins and minerals, but also in other substances that show nutritional or other physiological effects, such as: amino acids, fatty acids, fiber or herbal extracts.
For this we consider supplements as a supplement to our nutritional plan , the missing piece of the whole puzzle!!!
We should not put too much hope in the effects associated with their use if we do not take care of the basics: diet, training, recovery these factors can not be replaced by anything, but through supplementation we are able to make our plan complete.
In the selection of supplements, it is advisable to follow a cause-and-effect approach to optimize our body’s performance. We look for the cause of homeostasis disorders and, through appropriate selection of products and dosages, reduce the negative effects of these disorders.
I would like to quote the very apt words of a German doctor who studied many substances looking for their use in medicine: “only the dose makes a substance not a poison…”.
The apt statement shows us that everything must be selected personally under the nutritional deficiencies best diagnosed in laboratory results, nothing in excess of our needs will not optimally affect the work of our body. And, after all, we mainly care about doing what we love , enjoy health, longevity and an aesthetic figure.
